The whole event was organised by good friend of mine Andrew Morley and former Teefax manager Viv Tayler. A raffle was arranged with various prizes and an auction of Thompson Twins memorabilia donated by many fans including myself and a much prized and sought after rare proof sleeve of Roll Over kindly donated by Thompson Twins cover designer Andie Airfix. A total of £773 was raised for Sue Ryder something we should all be well proud of.
Tom had arranged to come to the reunion to meet all the fans again and catch up. He arrived at 3 with manager David and his wife. He spent a good while chatting to fans getting photos and signing things that people had brought along. It was a great day and weekend and everyone agreed that Tom was the best act at Butlins that weekend by far. It was great getting to see so many fans again that I have become friends with over the years and to just spend some time with so many like minded people. The whole day was a huge success and Tom posed for a few group photos with us all. Unfortunately Viv was unable to attend due to car trouble and was really disappointed but she hopes to plan a similar event perhaps in London this year 2016.
Andy had the great idea that we should create a memorial fund in memory of
devoted Thompson Twins fan and friend Geoff Major. Geoff was known to many around the world for his humour, His generosity, His kindness passion enthusiasm and dedication to the band and all their music. We all know that Geoff would have been a the forefront of a lot of this. He would have been to the reunion for sure and all Tom's gigs. Right down the front cheering him on. Though not there in the physical sense I'm sure he would have been there with us in spirit. So Andy has set up a memorial page on Much Loved and this and all future money raised will be in memory of Geoff something he would surely approve of. If you'd like to make a donation to Geoff's fund in aid of Sue Ryder and or even just light a candle or post a thought you can do so at the address below. It was a privilege to have known him and call him a freind and maybe he touched your lives in the same way that he did mine. Thanks. Peter.
